Details regarding potential intercity bus service to be unveiled

at upcoming Community Workshops

A summary of recent community input as well as the list of potential options regarding a new intercity bus service will be presented during a series of community workshops sponsored by the SouthEastern Arizona Governments Organization (SEAGO). If implemented, the proposed service could link Benson, Bisbee, Douglas, and Sierra Vista. While each community has its own local public transit service, the absence of affordable, intercity public bus service has frequently been cited as a barrier to accessing employment, healthcare, and educational opportunities and services.

The schedule for the hour-long public workshops is presented below:

  • Friday, February 3, 2017
    • 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. | Legacy Foundation of Southeast Arizona (302-01 El Camino Real, Sierra Vista)
    • 12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. | Benson Senior Center (705 W. Union St., Benson)
    • 5:00 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. | Bisbee Senior Center (300 Collins Rd., Bisbee)
  • Saturday, February 4, 2017
    • 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. | Douglas Visitor’s Center (345 16th, Douglas)

“We are quite pleased with the range of practical service options arising from this project,” noted SEAGO’s Chris Vertrees.  “They reflect the specific mobility needs and priorities of each of the four communities, as well as the diverse populations residing therein.”

The February workshops will provide a forum for public review and comment, after which the “preferred” list of service options will be presented to SEAGO’s board for review and comment. Depending upon community and board input, initial service offerings could begin in the first half of 2017.
